Nadal Congratulates Federer

Spain’s Rafael Nadal has extended his congratulations to Roger Federer of Switzerland for winning the 7th Wimbledon title of his career and the 17th Grand Slam overall.

Nadal, who was a victim of Federer and his marauding run at Wimbledon when he won 5 straight titles at Wimbledon, losing two Wimbledon finals to the Swiss Master has taken to the popular social networking site Facebook where he posted a congratulatory message for the new world number one.

Nadal and Federer have been the fiercest of rivals in the men’s tennis circuit ever since the Spaniard burst onto the scene at a time when men’s tennis meant Federer and Nadal before the emergence of the likes of Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.

In spite of the rivalry between the two, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are very good friends off the court and share mutual respect for each other. And it seems that the one person who is happiest with the victory of Federer against Andy Murray is his biggest rival. There were even tennis betting offers available on Federer and Nadal simply sharing the title if they had both made it to the final (unlikely I know!)

Nadal is currently back in his home town of Mallorca in Spain as he looks to freshen up and prepare for the upcoming London Olympic Games where he will defend his Gold Medal in singles and where his chances of coming face to face with Roger, who is the defending champion for the doubles Gold Medal are immense.

But Nadal is not afraid of the 17 time Grand Slam champion and he knows that he holds the advantage over the Swiss Maestro, having won two-thirds of the matches they have had against each other over the years and if Rafael Nadal can regain his form and fitness, he might just prove to be extremely handful for even the likes of Federer, arguably the greatest ever tennis player in the Open Era.

The latest odds on US Open show that Nadal is the slim favourite, though will obviously face stiff competition from Federer, Djokovic and Murray.
